The wins keep coming for design startup Canva. Just a few weeks after closing a US$15 million Series A round that has valued the startup at $165 million, co-founder Melanie Perkins has taken out top prize at the NSW Technology Entrepreneur of the Year awards in recognition of her ‘entrepreneurial endeavours and role model qualities’.
Design platform Canva today announced a USD$15 million Series A round of funding to continue expanding its platform, which is now used by more than five million marketers, designers and small business owners. This latest round of capital brings the total amount raised by the Sydney-based startup to USD$27 million and gives it a valuation of USD$165 million.

Evangelists help find and leverage the most passionate early adopters so that these particular users are so compelled; they convince their friends, family and colleagues to use what they’re using.
Yesterday, there was one story that dominated the Australian startup ecosystem: Ninja Blocks, a local pioneer in the Internet of Things space, would be closing its doors. It was a clear-cut case of not being able to continue building the company due to a very limited financial runway.
Online design platform Canva, founded by Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht and Cameron Adams, has just announced that it has taken on an additional $6 million in its third round of funding, bringing the total amount raised by the Sydney startup to $12 million.
They only launched in August last year, but Canva this morning at a breakfast with newly appointed product evangelist Guy Kawasaki, gave some pretty impressive updates about their platform.
Canva has experienced rapid growth – becoming a daily tool for bloggers, marketers and small business owners worldwide. To date, over 4 million designs have been created on the platform, with 870 000 designs being created in June 2014 alone. They also have over 500,000 users on the application now, a number up from 330,000 just 8 weeks ago in April.
Remember that old school graphics editing software called Photoshop and its countless buttons with tricky names that you hesitantly click on hoping one of them will do what you want it to? Well, forget it because Australian startup Canva has just announced the launch of their online graphic design platform that affords even the least technical person the ability to create professional designs free of charge.
