Here are the 10 finalists in the She Loves Tech competition

The She Loves Tech competition has chosen its 10 finalists for the 2021 competition.

To qualify, the startups must be early stage, tech-oriented and seeking seed, angel or series A funding (under US$5m) with at least an MVP, and at least have a female founder; majority female users or consumers; or have technology with a positive impact on women positively.

The startups chosen predominantly came from the health, care, city planning and cyber security sectors.

Connie Ren, co-founder and CMO of She Loves Tech Australian partner, Tanggram, said the calibre of entries this year showed a marked preference for scaling global markets.

“This is the second year Australian female-led and focused startups have been able to participate in this revolutionary competition, and we are impressed by the business acumen, proof of concept, price and user tensing shown by all participants,” she said.

“While sadly we saw less applicants than last year, as many female-led startups closed due the ongoing pressure placed on women by the pandemic, the startups who did apply were more advanced and more focused on scaling globally and not just key national markets of Sydney and Melbourne.”

Ren said that overall, the age of applicants dropped by around a decade compared to last year (20s and 30s in 2021 v 40s and 50s in 2020), but that reflected new ideas and innovative approaches to technology. Nonetheless, she noted that the products were also more developed to tailor to a more conservative investors.

“Because VCs in Australia tend to be more conservative and back primarily male and older startup founders, the young women who applied had clearly done their homework when it comes to price and user testing their technologies and products,” she said.

In addition to the finalists, She Loves Tech has also selected five judges and five mentors – from SquarePeg, AirTree, One Ventures, Galileo Ventures, BTC Markets, Tractor Ventures, Investible, Blue Chilli and UNSW Founders and Startmate – as part of the program.

Neighbourlytics: an innovative data analytics platform that uncovers rich insights about human behaviour and activity in neighbourhoods, enabling citymakers to make more effective decisions about how cities are planned, managed and improved.
