ANZAC HACK: The Aussie and Kiwi defence forces are holding a hackathon this weekend

The Australian and New Zealand defence forces are getting into hacking.

Well, not cyber black ops, but rather the Australian New Zealand Defence Force Hackathon, a virtual event kicking off this Friday, May 15 and running until Sunday.

Dubbed #Shockproof, the event is designed to look how supply chains and sovereign capability can be enhanced to mobilise resources in times when they’re most needed – most recently bushfires and now covid-19.

Tech sector association ACS has signed on as execution partner for the ANZDF virtual hackathon, with CEO Andrew Johnson saying the #Shockproof hack was open to Australians and New Zealanders, and their organisations.

“ACS was privileged to be invited to participate, and we encourage all our members and other stakeholders from the technology sector and innovation ecosystem to get involved and apply your problem solving skills to building solutions in the national interest,” Johnson said.

Previous participating organisations have included startups and microbusiness, consultants, small to medium business and their representative industry associations, with the virtual hackathon providing a pathway to become part of the wider defence innovation ecosystem.
