Australian and New Zealand startups have until Friday to enter the Bridge Hub 2020 Water Challenge aims to solve water problems across the agri-supply chain.
A prize pool of $250,000 in cash and investment is up for grabs in the competition, with entries closing on August 28.
Craig Shapiro, co-founder of Bridge Hub, said big problems, such as drought, can be addressed with the help of startups.
The best startup solutions will take out that cash and also gain access to the Bridge Hub global network and an opportunity to establish a trial in Australia.
“Through the 2020 Water Challenge, we are looking for practical solutions to the water problems across our agri-supply chain,” Shapiro said.
“If we can unlock and solve the many water issues we face, it will help us tackle the really big picture issues such as drought.”
Shapiro said the winning solutions will need to address one of four challenge questions:
1. How can the agri-system use less water and increase productivity and profitability?
2. How can we ensure the quality of water optimises the outcomes for the agri-system and the
environment?
3. How can we turn arid agricultural areas into vibrant, sustainable and productive regions?
4. How can different sectors outside the agri-system align to optimise water usage?
In addition to the startup prizes there are also research and student prizes, and a Trans-Tasman prize for collaborative research projects as part of the challenge.
Bridge Hub is an innovation hub based in Wagga Wagga, with offices in Sydney and Israel, providing commercialisation support for researchers and startups.
