Sydney doctor, founder and angel investor Dr Amandeep Hansra has joined the CSIRO’s deep tech investment fund Main Sequence as a principal.

Dr Hansra, a Bondi GP, has been in general practice for nearly two decades and co-founded the investment syndicate Australian Medical Angels, as well as founing Creative Careers in Medicine, which provides consulting services to governments, hospitals, startups, corporates and investors.

She was  CEO and medical director of Telstra’s telemedicine business ReadyCare; as well as serving as chief medical officer for Telstra Health. She continues as a director on several boards, including the Australian Medical Association (NSW) and Coviu Global.

Main Sequence general partner Bill Bartee said Dr Hansra will help bring innovation to life not only in healthcare but across all industries.

“We are so excited to welcome Amandeep to the investment team. Her vast experience makes her the right voice for us,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to witnessing her impact on the fund and the community as she applies her clinical background to solving some of the world’s biggest problems, including feeding a growing population, and unlocking the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning.”

Dr Hansra  said she’s looking to better connect her clinical background with creating impact on mass scale,

As a doctor, you want to ensure better health outcomes, not just for the patient in front of you, but to have a larger impact, even on a global level through innovation,” she said.

“Australia punches above its weight in research and is responsible for some world-class innovations, but to deliver them, we need to invest more seriously. I am excited to join a team where I can help build an investment pipeline that will enable these innovations to flourish and commercialise in a sustainable way.”

Her appointment as a principal follows on from the recent promotion of  Gabrielle Munzer to partner at the VC last month

Main Sequence has now invested in 42 companies.
