Design your own porno: Programmer introduces the 3D virtual reality porn star

Warning: This article is not for the prude or people under 18.

You know what they say: if you can think of it, there are probably 100 pornos based on it. I mean, who knew there would be a porno about stealing lemons? Those who understand this reference, shame on you! (Or the person that violated your inbox by sending you the link to the video).

While I’m not a fan of porn sites – they tend to hog all the online traffic – there’s no denying that when it comes to innovation, porn tech entrepreneurs are quick to embrace the latest and greatest.

In fact, if you haven’t heard already, there’s a porno version of Kickstarter. Plenty of startups turn to crowdfunding sites to market-test their concept, generate awareness and raise funds to progress in their startup endeavours.

However, if someone wanted to raise funds for a more sexually explicit project, they were out of luck because crowdfunding communities tend to prohibit pornographic projects. In response to this exclusion, Offbeatr was launched; and in 2012, grand visionary entrepreneurs in the porn industry were presented with an equal opportunity to see the forest for the trees.

Of course, the crowdfunding site isn’t for old school porn projects. It has to be innovative. A recent example is a project titled ‘Virtual Reality Porn – with real life models’ pitched by an unnamed techie. It seems his vision is to put the power back into the hands of the porn consumer by allowing them to digitally design their very own 50 Shades of Grey experience.

In the project description, he writes, “Would you like to enjoy porn in a new way? What if instead of watching 2D pictures, you could have 3D data? We are not talking about another 3D effect, like a stereoscopic view, but real-time 3D!”

The technology he proposes would allow the user to move freely around the female model, watching her from any viewpoint they’d like – while engaging in ‘other’ activities. And further, with virtual reality glasses like the Oculus Rift, users would get the first virtual reality porn experience with real life models scanned in 3D.

The “next generation scanner” will allow the geometry to be “more precise, respecting much more of the topology and shapes of the girls. [And] the textures will be improved in definition, giving you sharper details.”

The brains behind this idea, a self-proclaimed 3D computer graphist, says, “Virtual reality is the next natural move for porn entertainment”.

His plan is to shoot four different models, each in five different outfits. They would be scanned; and each set of scans will contain more than 12 different poses – from fully dressed to completely naked and using a sex toy.

Should the founder’s crowdfunding efforts be successful, the final software will be accessible under a membership-based model, and will be improved regularly to enrich the virtual experience, while at the same time, giving the consumer the power to control the scenario.

So basically, it’s a 3D porno video game. Surely, someone has come up with this already? If not, the porn industry isn’t all that up-to-date. Then again, it doesn’t need to be.
