The Be MPowered Pitch Competition gives female startup founders a shot at $10,000 and more

- June 7, 2019 2 MIN READ
Are you a woman in business? Do you have a startup idea that needs a funding injection? Then get set to enter the Be MPowered 2019 Pitch Competition.

The Be MPowered Pitch Comp is the brainchild of Mums & Co. founder, Carrie Kwan, who knows first-hand what it’s like to try to attract funding as a female founder. With only 2.2 per cent of venture capital funds currently being awarded to women-led ventures, Kwan is determined to level the playing field. With this in mind she launched the MPowered Pitching competition in 2018 and this year it is back, bigger and better than ever.

Entrants in this year’s Be MPowered Pitch Competition will have the chance to compete for a $10,000 cash prize, media exposure on Kochie’s Business Builders, Startup Daily, Women’s Agenda, Babyology and Mums & Co, along with mentoring sessions with investor and industry experts.

And don’t worry if you’ve never pitched before. Mums & Co has partnered with Marissa Warren from ELEVACAO to provide training to the women-led businesses selected to pitch.

“Marisa’s pitch training is globally known to be truly transformative for women, and has helped many receive investment, win competitions and successfully grow their businesses in Australia and the US,” said Kwan.

Successful applicants will take part in the pitching workshops prior to competing in front of an amazing array of judges including Elicia McDonald of AirTree Ventures, Peter Huynh of Qualgro and entrepreneur Justen Stepka former Docker employee and founder of Authentisoft.

Shortlisted founders will be expected to participate in a Skype interview. 15 finalists will be chosen with the successful applicants completing three pitch workshops to hone their pitch. Pitch finals will take place at the Be MPowered Conference on August 23 in Sydney.

Applications for the pitch comp close on July 4.
