A Melbourne enterprise technology startup that’s bootstrapped since its founding in 2019 has raised a $5 million Seed round in taking on its first external capital.
Slinging cash at Factor House were Blackbird, OIF, Flying Fox and the Alice Anderson Fund, LaunchVic’s female-focused co-investment side-car fund.
The funding will accelerate the commercial release of the startup’s flagship product, the Factor Platform, a tool that streamlines the management, security, and optimisation of real-time streaming data, as well as bolstering the sales and marketing efforts, and position the company as a global leader in real-time data solutions.
Their customer base includes Hewlett Packard, Block, Pepperstone
Cofounders Derek and Kylie Troy-West began building an enterprise-grade product to empower engineers working with Apache Kafka five years ago and now have a team of five.
“Today, Kpow for Apache Kafka is used by some of the world’s best engineering teams,” Derek, the CEO, said.
“Real-time is business critical, and this funding round allows us to apply what we have learned and deliver the multi-tech, unified platform for real-time data that our customers demand.”
Blackbird’s Nick Crocker said “their impressive client base and revenue achievements underscore their potential to become a significant player in the global tech landscape.”
Flying Fox investment director Rachael Newman said Factor House is redefining how engineering teams harness real-time data streaming.
“The explosion of real-time data and GenAI means that businesses can no longer afford inefficiencies in their infrastructure. Factor House is uniquely positioned to capture this wave, providing the critical tooling that enables companies to scale with confidence,” she said.
“We see the massive market opportunity Factor House has before them and back them to win in this space. Kylie and Derek have built an incredibly strong product, a loyal customer base, and a fast-growing business—all while bootstrapped to date.”
