Jobs social network LinkedIn has released the 2024 LinkedIn Top Startups Australia list, naming medicinal cannabis telehealth firm Montu as its top company

The list is compiled from trawling data on the platform four core areas: employee growth, jobseeker interest, and member engagement within the company and its employees, as well as how well these startups have poached talent from the flagship LinkedIn Top Companies list.

To feature on the list the startups have to be based in Australia, been founded within the last five year, be privately held and independent, and have 30 or more full-time employee. Nearly all the startups in 2024 hail from Melbourne or Sydney, with two based in Brisbane.

Linkedin Australia career expert Cayla Dengate said the top 20 offers jobseekers a list to emerging startups where those keen to be part of the sector can bolster their careers.

Linkedin’s 2024 Top Startups list showcases Australia’s vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem and features dynamic companies across a wide-variety of industries,” she said.

“Based on unique LinkedIn data, the list can help Aussie professionals discover emerging companies across multiple sectors and help provide valuable insights for those looking to grow their career.”

For chart topper Montu it’s their second time featuring, having ranked fifth in 2023.  Managing director, Christopher Strauch, is pleased that the organisation continues to be recognised for both its growth and positive impact.

“We’re so proud to have come first this year, after such a great placement on the same list last year,” he said.

“It’s also an honour to once again be listed among the best companies in Australia. Continuing to attract top-tier talent means we can focus on putting our patients first.”

Montu has been making an impact more broadly since launching in 2019 having topped the Deloitte Tech Fast 50 in 2022 and 2023 — the first company to win twice.

Montu has a range of services in the medicinal cannabis space from its telehealth clinic Alternaleaf, pharmacy dispensing via Leafio, and accredited healthcare education for clinicians through SAGED.

“Our 850+ remote-based Australian staff members work hard each and every day to deliver excellent results for our patients, and we’re fiercely proud of the fact that we’ve all helped build a truly innovative business,”  Strauch said.

“It’s always an achievement to be recognised as the leading organisation within our sector, for both our patients and our staff alike.”
