Sydney spacesuit startup Metakosmos, which is developing the “Kosmosuit” for life in space, has raised $2 million in a pre-Seed round.

The round was led Saudi Arabian technology group Alzadhar Al-Sanai and will be used by Metakosmos to accelerate its innovation pipeline, advance spacesuit technology and launch spin-off applications in multiple industries for new markets.

The Sydney spacetech startup has a team of experienced engineers, medical doctors and scientists who set out to push the boundaries of space technology and tackle the most pressing challenges in human spaceflight.

The Kosmosuit is an integrated multi-environment spacesuit platform with multiple uses across extreme terrestrial conditions. The suit consists of a base layer, exosuits, and proprietary software for advanced telemetry and it’s built as a modular platform for a range of conditions.

Metakosmos CEO Kiriti Rambhatla said their mission is to democratise spacesuit assess and astronaut training.

“We are thrilled to have the support of such esteemed investors who share our vision for the company, by enabling new markets for human space flight services,” he said.

His cofounder, Renuka Rambhatla, said: “This funding will enable us to deliver on critical milestones such as scaling the proprietary Kosmosuit platform – hardware, software and services – which is currently under development.”

In March the startup received a $250,000 grant from the Moon to Mars Supply Chain Capability program as part of NASA’s Artemis program for lunar exploration. It’s also received a NSW government MVP grant and last year won the space category at the inaugural SXSW Sydney pitch competition.

Alzadhar Al-Sanai CEO Aziz AlOthman said

“We are excited to support Metakosmos’s journey through this investment and help them expand their capabilities in global markets such as Australia, USA, India & emerging space economies like Saudi Arabia,” he said.

“Their visionary approach and cutting-edge solutions have the potential to make a significant impact on the future of human spaceflight across the globe”
