Online teaching and learning platform Atomi has raised $9 million in a Series A.

The round led by Sydney VC OIF Ventures amid plans for continued international expansion and team growth in the US and UK.

Playing in the e-learning space alongside the likes of Education Perfect, Atomi is an online teaching and learning platform that video lessons, interactive quizzes and AI-powered revision. It’s already being used by hundreds of thousands of students and teachers at schools across Australia and the UK, helping educators create more engaging and personalised lessons, supported by the analytics to track student progress and  performance.

The company has seen it customer numbers double during the Covid pandemic, adding more schools in the last 12 months than the previous three years combined.

Co-founder Rob Barakat said Atomi enables time-pressed educators to harness the power of technology.

“With a technology-enabled classroom, students and teachers can be more efficient and effective, and this has enormous flow-on effects in every aspect from engagement to outcomes,” he said.

“This round of funding will allow us to increase the rate of innovation of the platform and offer  more support to teachers and students across Australia and the UK.”

His co-founder Thomas O’Donahoo said that while students are now returning to schools for in-person lessons everyone has first-hand experience of the benefits the technology-enabled classroom.

“From giving students the flexibility to catch up on a lesson at home, to being able to create  a personalised learning path for every student, the advantages a platform like Atomi brings can be profound,” he said.

OIF Ventures investor Anna Osipov Heymann said the duo were exceptional founders who are building a best-in-class product.

“With strong school adoption already, a massive market opportunity and an ambitious team, Atomi is in the fast lane to accelerate innovation and deliver even  more impact to teachers, schools, parents, and most importantly, students,” she said.

“With our deep expertise in edyech, we’re proud to be partnering with the Atomi team on their journey to  being a leader in digital education globally.”
