WeMoney was the biggest winner at the annual FinTech Australia Finnie Awards, taking home the silver in three categories, including the People’s Choice Award for fintech of the year.
The annual awards, which recognise the best in Australian fintech, saw FrankieOne take home the top gong as Fintech Organisation of The Year award, while digital wallet startup Waave was named Emerging FinTech of The Year.
WeMoney’s other awards were for Excellence in Open Data and Excellence in Wealth Management.
Superhero founder and CEO John Winters was recognised as Fintech Leader of The Year, while the honours for Female Fintech Leader of the Year where shared between Anna Hawter from Lumi and Lisa Wade from DigitalX picking up. Erica Xie from Tanggram was named Emerging FinTech Leader of the Year.
Judges across the 19 categories in this year’s Finnies has to choose the winners from 322 entries.
Rehan D’Almeida, CEO of FinTech Australia told the crowd of more than 300 people at the awards in Sydney that the standard of entries continues to climb and over the two-stage judging process, many categories came down to a few points between judges.
“We pride ourselves on the effort we put in through the scrutinisation and judging process to ensure our winners are the best of the best. But that said, it gets more difficult each year,” he said.
“I’d like to congratulate our winners for 2024. There were some standout innovations over the past 12 months and I can safely say that a slowdown in funding has not deterred ingenuity in the sector.”
