Proptech Build Buddy, a platform that allows users to design, approve and build their new home, will head to Silicon Valley next month as the Australian flag bearer in the Global Startup World Cup.Â
Build Buddy is revolutionising the home building industry with easy-to-use platform that explain what you need to do, when and how, without having to engage a building project manager, and then connects users with the people to do it.
They now operate in Queensland and New South Wales, with a Victoria launch underway this month. The startup has already secured a construction pipeline worth more than $67 million, working with over 70 families.
The startup received a Highly Commended in the Most Innovative Idea category at the recent Startup Daily Best in Tech awards and followed up that recognition soon after by beating nine other startups to the prize in the Startup World Cup Australian pitch as part of Startup&Angels Investor Week
Build Buddy founder Danny Assabgy will represent Australia at the World Cup finals in San Francisco, first in the semi-finals on October 2, then hopefully, the grand final October 4, competing for a US$1 million investment prize.
As a regional finalist he’ll also take part in workshops and networking events during the week, which is organised by US VC firm Pegasus Tech Ventures.
The three-day event attracts more than 50,000 attendees, including 2,500 investors and 500 speakers.
Andiron Group has sponsored Build Buddy’s flights across the Pacific.
The nine other startup competing in the Australian leg were: Minimis Technologies, InnerSteps, Adiona, iyarn, JurisTechne, GIAGO, EverYoungAI, Digital Village, and Automi.Â
Romane Delvallee, Head of Startup&Angels, said the 2024 competition featured an impressive lineup of startups.
“This year’s event has been nothing short of incredible, spotlighting the brightest minds in Australia’s startup ecosystem. We are eager to follow Build Buddy’s journey as they compete on the global stage,” he said.
Danny Assabgy said the pitch competition had challenged them to refine their messaging andeffectively communicating Build Buddy’s value to our customers, the residential construction industry, and potential investors, and he now has his eyes on an even bigger prize.
“Within five years, more houses will be built through Build Buddy than through any major building company in Australia,” he said.
“Winning the Startup World Cup regional final is a tremendous validation of our vision at Build Buddy. We’ve been working tirelessly to truly revolutionise the home building industry, and this win not only recognises our efforts but also puts Australian innovation on the global map.”
