The best in the Australian climate tech ecosystem was honoured last week with eight awards honouring the startups and supporters who helped make it happen.

The Australian Climate Tech Connect & Awards 2024 were hosted by Climate Salad, with the theme of connection.

Climate Salad cofounder and CEO Mick Liubinskas said the day “delivered in spades” with founders, investors, government and corporate supporters collaborating to drive innovation and progress in the Australian climate tech sector.

“Our mission was to create a space where relationships could thrive, ideas could flow, and the extraordinary work of the climate tech community could be celebrated,” said  of Climate Salad.

“The energy and enthusiasm in the room proved that Australia’s climate tech sector is not only thriving but ready to lead on a global stage.”

The day culminated with announcement of the winners of the 2024 Australian Climate Tech Awards, celebrating the leaders, trailblazers and game-changers making an impact.

Hunter Valley clean energy startup MGA Thermal, which is looking to generate electricity from thermal blocks it’s developed, added to its 2024, which included a $200,000 top up to its pre-Series B, this week, by winning the Impact Award.

The Hunter Valley startup previously raised $5.7 million in April this year, and in June, the federal government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), also chipped in to triple its initial $1.27m investment in 2022 with a further $2.48m, providing nearly half of the startup’s $7.8 million thermal energy storage project.
