A little bit of Sydney is heading south with Tank Stream Labs, the coworking tech hub for startups, expanding into Melbourne.
Tank Stream Labs CEO Bradley Delamare said that as the Victorian capital continues to go gangbusters with tech innovations and budding unicorn startups, a significant gap has emerged when it comes to CBD commercial office designed for tech startups and scale-ups.
It’s a problem exacerbated since the closure of YBF in 2021 amid Covid lockdowns.
The new TSL coworking space, covering nearly 2,500 square metres, is at 440 Collins Street, Melbourne, which has recently received a makeover by Barangaroo developers Lendlease.
Delamere said the new Tank Stream Labs hub will open on September 1.
“There is a clear need for spaces that foster collaboration, creativity, and technological advancement. As Melbourne aims to solidify its status as a top destination for tech innovation, providing suitable office environments will be crucial,” he said.
“Creating dedicated tech hubs in the CBD will not only attract more startups and scale-ups but also support the city’s overall economic development and global competitiveness.”
The new site follows the launch of the upmarket coworking space brand Tank Stream Suites, with the level 33 site in Sydney’s iconic Australia Square, in high demand.
Delamare said that despite the challenges faced by coworking operators globally, Tank Stream Labs has thrived, opening five new locations over the past two years.
“With a lack of options that are focused solely on the technology sector of startup and scale-up businesses, we have a significant proportion of our 250+ companies with operations and teams located in Melbourne, and we want to bring our community, resources, and support services to this market,” he said.
“As the firm continues to support and nurture startups and scale-ups, Tank Stream Labs reaffirms its role as a pivotal player in Australia’s technology ecosystem.”
