A Sydney startup developing AI ‘co-pilot’ systems to automate medical reports for specialist doctors has raised $2 million from leaders in surgical healthcare.
Medow Health AI was cofounded by Joel Freiberg, who has Crohn’s disease, and his brother Josh, inspired by the time their father, a respiratory physician, spent doing admin after work.
Clinicians who’ve backed Medow Health as investors and advisors include oncologist and the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse CEO Dr Michael Boyer and orthopedic surgeon Dr Michael Solomon.
The startup has also partnered with health technology group Magentus, integrating with its systems, which are common in Australian medical practices. The platform’s AI records and documents specialist doctor consults, produce formal reports and cuts clinician paperwork, which they hope will reduce wait times for surgery.
Joel Freiberg said many of the medical specialists who use the technology wanting to be involved in the capital raise.
“Over 50% of our investment capital has come from specialist doctors, providing a huge vote of confidence and also strategic input that other investors couldn’t match,” he said.
“Since September last year, Medow Health has been growing 50% month-on-month and we expect that trend to continue as the company expands operations significantly in 2025, making a big push into New Zealand.
“Central to our vision is developing a system that truly resonates with the specialists who utilise it. Medow Health AI embodies a philosophy of ‘made by specialists for specialists,’ underpinning the dedication to reshaping the healthcare experience through innovation.”
