Startup Daily TV: Bootstrapped surgery training app ScrubUp is looking for investors and a hospital to trial its lifesaving healthtech

ScrubUp is a cloud-based surgical preparation app that bridges the gap between hands-on experience for nurses and brushing up on best practice procedures in their own time.

Surgical nurse and educator Marrianne McGhee founded ScrubUp in 2016 and has taken the healthtech app global to help instruct surgical technicians and nurses on the correct preparation procedures for surgery.

Surgical preferences on the app can be changed, updated and reviewed at anytime, anywhere around the world and during the covid-19 era, ScrubUp’s importance in keeping nurses even more up to date with

It now operates in 80 countries and McGhee has seen increased downloads, especially in the US, as the pandemic disrupted surgeries and first-hand experience.

She now has ScrubUp to the point where she’s looking for strategic investors and while her initial approach has been to sell the app to clinicians, a growing call for hospitals to take on the platform and she’s looking to scale up, having bootstrapped the startup up until now.

McGhee told us she has the support of the NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research, Brad Hazzard, and is now seeking a NSW hospital willing to trial ScrubUp with her.

“This will save lives and will save money,” she said.
