Kochie is on a mission to find Australia’s Favourite Family Business

Sunrise host and family business owner David Koch is on the hunt to find Australia’s Favourite Family Business.

From breweries to boutiques, corner stores to caterers, Australia’s family businesses not only employ millions of workers and keep the economy ticking, but also clothe us, feed us, care for us, and even entertain us. Small businesses are the lifeblood of Australia’s economy, but did you know 70 per cent – or 1.5 million – of Aussie small businesses are family-run?[1]

These businesses are the pillars of our local communities and Kochie want to shine a spotlight on their efforts.

Through the search to find Australia’s Favourite Family Business, Kochie’s Business Builders wants to celebrate Australia’s family businesses and thank them for all the hard yards they put in to help our communities – and the nation – prosper.

Peter Strong CEO of the Council of Small Business Owners Australia (COSBOA) said it is vital to acknowledge the contribution of Australia’s many family businesses.

“Family businesses are quite often dynasties that add to the economy, keep people in work, provide the opportunity to better manage change and create innovation. We need to support them and understand just how unique they are,” says Strong.

Mums & Co founder and small business owner Carrie Kwan suggested the competition would provide outstanding exposure for the winner.

“Mums & Co is a network of mums in business and we know there are some amazing, often unsung, family businesses in Australia. We highly encourage those who run a family business to jump on this opportunity. Having worked with the Kochie’s Business Builders team, we know the guidance and visibility the winner will gain will be invaluable.”

Entry to the competition is now open. Businesses can self-nominate for the title of Australia’s Favourite Family Business. Entries close November 15, 2018.

Entrants will be shortlisted, with the top candidates announced and put to a public vote to decide who is Australia’s favourite.

The winning business will receive national exposure via a segment on Kochie’s Business Builders TV show in 2019.
