Journalists and commentators Rae Johnston and Tegan Jones, cofounders of the Queens of the Drone Age podcast, are back together for a new look at the state of the industry, titled Weird Tech.

The duo have signed on with ARN’s iHeart for their new podcast, which aims to dig down the back of the couch for the most intriguing, unusual, and downright bizarre moments in tech.

Weird Tech begins with one simple question… ‘Want to hear something weird?”, each short episode features an offbeat piece of hardware, software, scientific discovery, or historical event. The show is set to uncover the hidden gems of technology that are often overlooked, bringing a fresh perspective and plenty of laughs.

Jones and Johnston will look at everything from the quirkiest gadgets to the strangest tech innovations and the most fascinating, yet little-known, historical events in the tech world.

Jones said Weird Tech is for anyone who loves technology with a twist and is eager to discover the oddities that make the industry so captivating.

I’m so excited to dive back into the more unique, bizarre, and often hilarious aspects of tech,” she said.

“Technology isn’t just about solving problems — it’s about sparking curiosity and delight. This podcast is our way of reminding everyone that tech can be fun, unexpected, and wonderfully weird.”

Johnston said that while technology is fun, watching news about it sliding into a more dystopian vibe certainly isn’t.

“For our own sanity, we needed to share with each other the weird, cool, often under-reported tech out there that makes us hopeful for the future,” she said.

iHeart head of digital audi Corey Layton hailed the duo as leaders in the Australian tech industry.

Having them reunite to delve into the offbeat world of the weirder side of tech will prick up the ears of tech heads across the nation with joy,” he said.

Weird Tech is available now on the free iHeart app.
