The NSW government has opened applications for three new grant initiatives offering up to $95 million research, development and commercialisation of clean technologies.

NSW treasurer and energy minister Matt Kean said the grants will help drive innovations developed by scientists and startups as part of the push towards net zero by 2050.

“Boosting emerging innovations today will help establish NSW as a global leader in low-emissions products and services over the next decade,” he said.

“These grants will support laboratories and entrepreneurs to help new business ideas get traction in both Australia and overseas, and grow the NSW economy.”

The treasurer said the government is partnering with industry and researchers to target three key emissions areas.

“They include electrification and energy systems, land and primary industries, and power fuels including hydrogen,” he said.

The three Clean Technology grant initiatives include:

  • $45 million for infrastructure, such as world-leading innovation facilities, to accelerate research, development and commercialisation of clean technologies
  • $10 million to help equip organisations such as start-ups and entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and resources to succeed commercially
  • $40 million to drive the scaling up of clean technologies that will support the decarbonisation of high emitting and hard to abate sectors.

Expressions of interest for the grants are open until April 22 this year

Details on the grants, eligibility and how to apply online are available here

The Clean Technology Innovation grants are part of the state government’s $1.05 billion Net Zero Industry and Innovation Program.

For more information on the program is available at the Clean technology innovation page on the Energy Saver website.

Meanwhile, 39 research projects developed in NSW are on show this week as part Research Impact Showcase

The Showcase is an initiative of the Waratah Research Network, a collaboration between government and universities that promotes the translation of high-quality research into evidence-based policies that aim to improve social, economic and environmental outcomes for NSW.
