Canadian software company Marpost acquires Australian ecommerce platform Retail Express for $61 million

The global expansion plans of Canadian ecommerce company Maropost continue with the acquisition of 15-year-old Australian retail platform Retail Express for CN$55 million (A$61m).

Retail Express is the Australian & New Zealand leader in point-of-sale systems for mid-market and enterprise retail brands. Founder and CEO Aaron Blackman has bootstrapped the business since its launch in 2006 in Brisbane.

It was the first technology company to pioneer cloud retail software in Australia, and alsongside PoS, the platform also offers eCommerce, stock control, loyalty, marketing, business intelligence, and logistics for retailers ranging from  99 Bikes, to Marais, and Forty Winks

The company has worked with more than 5,200 retailers and 45,000 users to processed more than A$50 billion in transactions.

Blackman said he knows what it takes to run a successful retail business.

“When I started building Retail Express, I wanted to ​regain visibility and control over my own retail business. So I made sure that our platform has everything a commerce merchant would need,” he said.

“Now with Maropost we can serve our community in a whole new way! We believe in partnerships, not transactions. And we can’t wait to create more success stories together.”

Maropost founder and CEO Ross Andrew Paquette, launched his SaaS startup in 2011 as a global marketing automation platform that helps B2C companies with audience engagement, customer acquisition and revenue growth.
