Victoria’s lockdown forces Fintech Australia to postpone The Finnies awards

Fintech Australia has been forced to postpone The Finnies less than a fortnight before the awards were due to be held on June 9 as Victoria goes into a week-long snap lockdown after 34 active Covid-19 cases emerged in the last three days.

With surrounding states also imposing restrictions on anyway who’s been in Victoria over the past fortnight amid an outbreak of a highly contagious Indian strain Fintech Australia CEO Rebecca Schot-Guppy said the awards event will be moved back several weeks.

“After the roaring success that was last week’s Intersekt conference, it’s with great disappointment that we announce that this year’s Finnie Awards — to be held at The Forum in Melbourne — will be postponed until July 21,” she said.

“This wasn’t an easy decision. Many of those attending will travel from interstate for the event. We want to ensure that we are well clear of this latest outbreak to give those traveling certainty that they will be able to travel down to Melbourne and return home safely and without restriction.

“Aside from the change of date, all other aspects of the event will go ahead as planned.

“We want to thank everyone in the fintech industry for their understanding.”
