FinTech Australia has added two new awards to the annual Finnies, which are now open for entries.

The new Excellence in Open Data award will examine how companies are managing and controlling their data, a issue that’s come to the fore with the launch of the consumer data right and open banking in July last year

And with the awards now in their fifth year, the new Hall of Fame will commemorate a company that has made a lasting impression on the Australian fintech industry’s overall development.

There are now 20 categories in total, after the organisers dropped the Excellence in Crowdfunding award, citing a lack of entries last year.

FinTech Australia CEO Rebecca Schot-Guppy said the awards have been tweaked to ensure they represent the sector’s achievements.

“The CDR launched in Australia less than a year ago, yet so much work has already been done to install world-leading solutions for consumer and financial data. We want to recognise this,” she said.

“We also are home to a number of world-leading fintechs that are leading the charge in advertising Australia as a global hub for the sector. The Hall of Fame recognises this, and pits the best against the best.”

The awards recognise achievements in blockchain, business lending, consumer lending, insuretech, crowdfunding, wealth management and payments alongside categories such as FinTech Organisation of the Year, Outstanding FinTech Leader of the Year, Female FinTech Leader of the Year, Emerging FinTech Leader of the Year and Emerging FinTech Organisation of the Year.

Entries close on March 30, with the finalists announced on April 25. While The Finnies were held remotely last year, vaccine-willing, the awards night is scheduled for June 9 at Forum Melbourne on June 9.

Details on the awards and how to enter are available here.

Vocus is major sponsor of The Finnies, with MasterCard as an event partner.
