Andrew Paykel worked for more than two decades in his famed family business, the New Zealand whitegoods brand Fisher and Paykel, before deciding the time had come to spread his own wings as an entrepreneur.
So in 2015 he set out to disrupt the travel industry with a startup that gives people the chance to book a holiday online and then pay it off in interest-free instalments
Last year AP Ventures, the new Sydney-based investment company 44% owned by Afterpay invested more than $10m in the startup, adding the a layer of buy-now-pay-later insights from the highly successful fintech to Paykel’s business.
While the travel sector is currently on hold, the planning ahead people make for their holidays mean that many of his customers have stuck by the business in recent months. Paykel is now rebranding as Play Travel and joined us on Startup Daily TV to tell us more about his plans. You can watch below.
Startup Daily TV is filmed and produced by Pinstripe Media – Video Production Services.
