Australian beautician and hairdresser booking app Glamazon has found an exit after three years, acquired by the Indian home services marketplace Urban Company for an undisclosed sum.
Co-founded by former Shark Tank contestants Lauren Silvers and Lisa Maree, Glamazon had raised $1.2 million in funding during its short life and had around 1,700 beauty workers on its books. The company will rebrand under six-year-old Urban Company, which has more than 25,000 service professionals on its platform, serving around 800,000 services a month in 22 cities in Australia, India, the UAE and Singapore.
Urban Company launched in Australia in November last year, offering cleaning services via its app and website. Silvers will remain with the business to launch its beauty and wellness offerings in Australia.
Urban Company offers a range of home services, from hair to makeup, spa and wellness services, cleaning, electricians, carpenters, plumbing, and pest control and expanded into Australia in November last year,
Silvers said the two companies have aligned mission: “to empower independent, mobile professionals to become entrepreneurs, enabling them to have successful freelancing careers” which is why the merger made sense.
“I am thrilled to be leading the branding and marketing for Urban Company in Australia, in addition to launching and leading the beauty and wellness services,” she said.
Urban Company co-founder Abhiraj Bhal said “the acquisition of Glamazon’s business assets was an excellent opportunity to expand its scope of operations and consolidate its position in the Australian on-demand home services market”.
