Looking to eliminate the need to run off to Officeworks for a printing job, Canva has announced the launch of Canva Print, a new paid service allowing users the ability to create and order printed designs.

The service aims to act as a direct, simplistic replacement to online printing services such as Vistaprint and Zazzle, offering users a simple way to print the business cards, invitations, postcards, posters, flyers and letterheads they create on the platform.

Once a design has been submitted to Canva, the startup will facilitate printing via partners and deliver the design straight to a user’s doorstep.

Canva CEO, Melanie Perkins, said the service will look to take the annoyance involved with the design and printing process, whether that be at home or in the office.

“Anyone who’s ever tried to design their own business cards or print a poster will know what a pain it can be,” she said.

“Whether it’s trying to get your home printer to work, having to drive to the nearest Kinko’s, or making do with a limited online tool, we don’t think that’s the way print should be done.”

Any designs created across Canva’s 50,000 -large template shelf will have the ability to be printed in one of the selected formats. For businesses, Perkins said the printing tool looks to reflect modern workplace.

“The modern workforce demands modern solutions, and Canva continues to evolve to lead the industry in meeting its needs. Now with one click you can publish your design on social media, turn your design into a website, embed it on your blog, and with Canva Print, have your design beautifully printed and delivered to your door,” she said

The release of the new service follows in line with the startup announcing at the end of last year that its 2017 would focus on developing the Canva product to ensure a more tailored experience for its users.

“One of our key focuses for 2017 is ensuring that Canva perfectly meets the needs of every profession,” Perkins said at the time.

Getting ahead of the new year, Canva launched a suite of new tools in December which enabled users to customise and visualise data, with the core feature allowing users to upload data to create attractive graphs and charts. Another tool in the batch allowed users to convert content into presentations to share online in document or slideshow format.

Perkins added that the printing launch marked an important step in “empowering anyone” for Canva, which now sports more than 10 million global users and 200 million designs created on the platform.

“Launching Canva Print makes it incredibly simple for people to create something they’re proud of in Canva and get it professionally printed with the click of a button.”

Additional printing products, such as apparel, will also become available in the coming months.
