The Vocus Upstart accelerator program has announced its 2016 participant intake, looking to help build local tech startups in Perth. The seven chosen startups will receive $40,000 in funding to help develop and commercialise their technology.
Commencing on August 1, Upstart is a three month intensive program. Along with seed funding, participants will also receive working space at Spacecubed and mentoring from 34 industry leaders including successful entrepreneurs, investors, and tech experts.
This year’s program mentors include Steve Baxter, investor and founder of River City Labs, Ian Gardiner from Amazon Web Services, Cliff Obrecht, cofounder of Canva, Jane Garret, cofounder of Glaciei, and Claire McGregor, cofounder of Appbot.
Vocus Upstart is also a launch member of the Global Accelerator Network, which comprises of over 70 accelerators in 100 cities around the world. Entrepreneurs past and present who take part in Vocus are connection to a network of industry leaders around the world and also access to landing pad cities.
“We’ve seen huge changes in the last 18 months in the innovation ecosystem in Australia and specifically Western Australia where there’s been big opportunities for people to start up their ideas,” said Brodie McCulloch, managing director at Spacecubed.
“Vocus Upstart has come along at the perfect time to fit into these early stage entrepreneurs to get their ideas up and running more quickly.”
The Vocus Upstart 2016 has accepted a range of concepts and applications, ranging from an online voting system to entertainment experiences and virtual reality training programs.
The startups selected for the 2016 program include:
Veri Vote: a process built upon blockchain technology and cryptographic techniques to provide an online secure voting process.
Everythere: creates public and private digital interpretive hotspots in minutes. Users join up hotspots to create circuits and engage with visitors.
prevyou: sources the best students for jobs big or small. Aims to revolutionise work experience for Australian students.
Filtered: a vetted high level B2B community where suppliers seeking new business opportunities offer free and unique insights to company decision makers via our video pitch platform to land qualified meetings and present solutions.
Jurimetrics: data analytics and commercial statistics to help and assist legal research.
Immersia VR: offers cutting-edge business-to-business virtual reality solutions.
Yabble: helps parents find, book and pay for their child’s after school activities.
