Sydney edutech 3P Learning has been awarded 2016 Microsoft Education Partner of the Year award for its excellence in innovation. The award recognises partner organisations that excel at providing innovative and unique services or solutions based on using Microsoft technologies to educate consumers.
3P Learning was recognised by Microsoft for its offer of online resources including Mathletics, IntoScience, Spellodrome and Reading Eggs. The startup helps more than five million students in over 17,000 schools across the world excel in science, maths, literacy and spelling.
CEO of 3P Learning Rebekah O’Flaherty said the award recognises the positive impact the Australian startup has on a global scale.
“To be recognised as Microsoft’s Education Partner of the Year is a real testament to our mission to transform lives through a love of learning,” said O’Flaherty.
Awards were presented in 37 categories that celebrated each of the core partner competencies, including cloud technology, public sector, citizenship and many more. Award finalists were selected from more than 2,500 nominations from 119 different countries and selections were based on a company’s commitment to customers, their solution’s impact on the market and the exemplary use of Microsoft technologies.

3P Learning launched as a small startup with three Sydney-based teachers to become a global, award winning company that provides education and learning resources to students all over the world.
O’Flaherty said teacher support is something 3P Learning is passionate about, which is why the startup offers professional learning opportunities to empower teachers to transform classroom teaching and learning.
One such resource offered on 3P Learning is Mathletics, which both the Australian Catholic University in Sydney and University of Oxford have proven gives students a much needed advantage.
From 2007 to 2012, an independent research study conducted by the Australian Catholic University found the adoption of Mathletics by 8,000 schools showed a significant improvement in NAPLAN results, when compared to schools that did not use it. The advantage in NAPLAN scores to schools using Mathletics increased by nine percent.
It was found that two to three Mathletics activities per week is all it takes to get the ‘Mathletics Advantage’, which contributes to a student’s in-class or out of school learning to just 30 minutes per week.
3P Learning is just one out of many startups who have recently gained international success. Last month Australian startup Local Measure joined the likes of Hootsuite and Adobe as an official Instagram partner. Even more recently, last week Perth fintech startup BankVault won the 2016 World Cup Tech Challenge in Silicon Valley.

Global popularity among Australian startups just goes to show the benefits of consumer dedication and delivering products that have real world impact.
To continue delivering quality products to its customers, 3P Learning is set to run its Love Learning Conference in Sydney as an annual two day event to help teachers shape the future of education. The conference will connect a number of industry thought leaders and teachers with analysis on emerging trends including technology and its impact on the learning environment.
One of the biggest impacts technology has had on in-school learning revolves around increasing education on STEM skills to involve more students, and specifically more women to educate themselves on the skills they will need for tomorrow’s industries.
According to Startup Daily Insights, Australian startups are seeking quality engineering talent above any other job category. The specific market verticals that require the most talent in Australia are: enterprise software, marketplace style products, ecommerce platforms as well as edutech and healthtech ventures.
Edutech is greatly impacting the classroom as technology brings the need for students to learn more STEM based skills that are now necessary to have for many tech and even non-tech specific jobs. With the national Student Edge survey revealing students are eager to be taught these skills it is important students Australia-wide have easy access to online resources like 3P Learning.
The Student Edge survey of over 4,800 students revealed 77 percent of students believed maths should be compulsory throughout high school, with 59 percent in agreement science subjects should also be mandatory.
Choon Tan, Student Edge’s general manager of members, said, “The anecdotal evidence suggests young people aren’t ready to lean into STEM subjects, but the results of this survey clearly contradict popular opinion.”
