Applications open for NRMA’s second Jumpstart accelerator programme

The National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA) is now accepting applications for its second Jumpstart accelerator programme, following the successful completion of its first programme in March.

Careseekers, an online service connecting people needing in-home carers with people looking for care work across Australia, took out the 2015 NRMA Members Choice Award, giving the startup an additional $5,000, on top of a $30,000 grant provided as part of the Jumpstart programme.

The programme also provides three months of structured training, six months of mentoring from relevant industry professionals and networking opportunities.

According to NRMA, out of the five companies that took part in the Jumpstart programme, four have secured ‘significant’ seed funding from private investors, though no numbers were revealed.

The first programme’s scaleup participants Villalet, Pricepal and Fixed Price Car Servicing are currently finalising commercial agreements with NRMA.

According to NRMA, the first Jumpstart programme catapulted the participants’ businesses at hyper-speed; the participants enjoyed outcomes that would ordinarily take two years for businesses to achieve.

The second Jumpstart programme will also be managed by Slingshot, an Australian company that runs startup accelerator programmes for corporate clients.

NRMA President Kyle Loades said the businesses that graduated from the first programme have the potential to become household names.

“We are thrilled to be one of the first Australian organisations to nurture new business talent for the primary outcome of offering potential future benefits; both products and services to our Members. Jumpstart is a logical extension of our ongoing quest to develop and offer new products and services to our Members,” Loades said.

“We are encouraging startups to apply for a Jumpstart program position. The structure of our accelerator programme gives participants a launching pad for their products and services.”

Jumpstart applications are now open and close on the 6th of August.
