WORKSHOP: Accounting Essentials and R&D Tax Incentives for Startups

Aaron Wallace, Operations Director of Nudge Accounting, and Sean Moynihan, Federal Government specialist at PwC, will be presenting this MAP Master Class!

Aaron will run through the basics of accounting for startup founders. He will explain the relationship between cash flow, budgeting, runway and making investment decisions, to ensure that you leave with an understanding of how to think about money as a founder.

Sean is a R&D tax incentives and government grants specialist.  He’ll show you what kinds of activities are eligible for the R&D tax incentives and how to claim them.  Government grants are an excellent resource for startups that are often under-utilised, and Sean will show you how to identify appropriate sources of government funding, eligibility criteria and application processes.

About Aaron Wallace

Aaron is a co-founder and the Operations Director of Nudge Accounting.  Aaron likes how small business makes a big difference in his life.  From the local coffee shop to Nudge’s talented design team, they all make life just that bit better.  Aaron has seen business from lots of different angles. He is a lecturer in Accounting at the University of Technology, Sydney and was previously a manager at a Big 4 accounting firm, KPMG.  Aaron learnt about small businesses first hand growing up in the family’s real estate agency and began his accounting career working extensively in taxation for small businesses.

About Sean Moynihan

Sean specialises at PwC in Federal Government funding with a focus on the R&D Tax Incentive. Each year PwC assists in excess of 100 Australia startups from an array of different industry sectors in lodging their R&D Tax Incentive claims to receive cash refunds from the Federal Government.  PwC also provides hundreds of startups with a wide array of business solutions that are required at different stages of their growth ranging from pre-incorporation to IPO and beyond.

About MAP Master Class Series

The Master Class Series provides practical advice to early-stage startup founders on the day-to-day challenges of running a business.  Sessions are held every second Wednesday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in Brown Theatre of Electrical Engineering (Building 193) at the University of Melbourne Parkville campus. The format is a 45 minute presentation by guest speaker followed with a 15 minute open Q&A.
