Sydney Firehose: A Big Data Startup Competition

- October 16, 2013 < 1 MIN READ

It’s hard to get your hands on some truly big data. So, Coca-Cola Accelerator Sydney, Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) and Pollenizer have decided to change that and are joining forces to present, Firehose – a startup competition for developers, designers and entrepreneurs, and an opportunity to use big data in an extraordinary way to win some amazing prizes.

This is a rare chance to work with some truly big data. How big? Well CCA has collated three years of supply chain data – more than 150,000,000 records – and made it available exclusively for the participants of Firehose. Kicking off on Friday, 15 November, the competition will take place over the following two Saturdays, in Sydney.

Participants will form teams and use the data to create a startup that can help companies like CCA to have ‘the perfect system’ – from a corner store in Granville ordering their stock through to John the truck driver delivering their order two days later.

Imagine the invaluable insights into one of Australia’s biggest distribution networks and the limitless possibilities of what could be created using such immense volumes of data. The best of Australia’s startup and technology industries will be on hand to mentor as well as CCA and Pollenizer to give the teams a helping hand.
