OzAPP Awards are calling on creative app developers in the Asia Pacific region to bring forward their best new app concepts for mobile, web and cloud.
Applicants will participate in a program that fosters dialogue and collaboration between innovators, researchers, investors and other industry heavyweights. The winners will be awarded funds and resources to help build and launch their apps.
“West Tech Fest” will be introduced to the program this year – consisting of a national Roadshow with Silicon Valley industry leaders, Mai Tai Australia and Startup Village, as well as pitching opportunities, technology and startup events and an industry conference.
The Roadshow program will feature keynotes and networking opportunities, and will take place in major cities including Singapore, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. Bill Tai, Partner at Sillicon Valley based Charles River Ventures, will speak at the Roadshows various events.
Bill Tai, Founder of MaiTai – an organisation focused on building a community of entrepreneurs, innovators and athletes and hosting legendary events around the world – will chair the international judging panel along with Young Sohn (Chief Strategy Officer at Samsung), Othman Laraki (entrepreneur and former VP of Growth for Twitter), Ed Cortis (Head of Solution Delivery at Bankwest), and representatives from Qualcomm Ventures, Silicon Valley Bank and Optus.
“Applicants will be judged according to what the app offers, the market need for the product and its path to revenue. I am excited to be part of this Curtin University initiative and I look forward to seeing the unique and innovative entries in the competition,” says Mr. Tai.
Rohan McDougall, IP Commercialisation Director at WA’s Curtin University, says the 2013 OzAPP Awards drew interest from the world’s leading investors and entrepreneurs.
“Last years awards showcased the extraordinary talents of app developers across Australia, demonstrating the high quality of innovation that the nation has to offer,” he says.
The 2014 OzAPP Awards is backed by Platinum Sponsors Optus Innov8 Seed Program and Bankwest, as well as Murdoch University, ECU and Reparo.
Final judging will be staged in Perth, Western Australia on February of next year. To register for free or to learn more about OzAPP, visit www.ozapp.com.au.
