One of the hardest things when starting up is getting street cred in your industry. When you are the “newbie” on the scene, customers have no reason at all to trust you or what you need at all and traction – real traction takes time. And to gain press coverage journo’s look at these things before they will talk about you. This is why awards can be so useful for startups to build their profile.

Some people have said to me that they do not nominate themselves or their businesses to avoid looking up themselves. Personally I think this is stupid and if you don’t want to promote yourself and what you do then you should not be in business in the first place. When you start up NOBODY knows about you or your business, in order to reach a larger audience, you need to learn how to talk yourself and your business up a bit.

Awards are a great way to get some attention from media, they allow your business to stand out from the crowd and help validate what you do. Watch today’s video for some of the awards in the startup space and advice on what to write when nominating your business!

Have a Great Week Folks!
