Facebook App Store
In the coming weeks facebook will be launching it’s own app store. People will be able to access the App centre on the web and in the iOS and Android Facebook Apps. All apps specifically designed for the facbook canvass are eligible as well as mobile apps using the web and operating platforms of iOS and Android. Apps for Timeline pages will also be eligible as well as applications that use facebook logins.
“Wake Up” Blackberry!
Blackberry confirmed last week that it was behind the “Wake Up” campaign that saw busloads of people protesting in black outside locations such as the Apple store in George Street, in what is being hailed as one of the biggest PR failures EVER – press were sent black envelopes with the words “Wake Up” on them prompting most to write about the campaign being creepy and stalker like. During its last-reported period, the fiscal fourth quarter, RIM saw smart phone shipments fall nearly 80 per cent, to 11.1 million. Pushing the company to a $125 million dollar loss.
19 year old closes a 7 million dollar funding round
19 year old Sahil Lavingia has gone down in History as being one of the youngest solo founders to close a rounding of capital this week, when he received an injection of 7 million dollars into his new company Gumroad. The new company aims to change the way people buy things online and with backers like Accel Partners that invested in Facebook, we think he is definitely onto something.
And in what has to be one of the creepiest startups that I have ever heard of Swiss National Domonic Deville launched his new business Evil Party Clown this week – the business allows parents to hire him to stalk their children in the lead up to their birthday party, where he leaves them threatening notes and text messages before on the day unsuspectingly smashing them in the face with a cake. Deville says that “Kids love being scared senseless, and that if there are any concerns in the process from parents they can ask him to stop”
