New Startup: SportBizInsider

- May 24, 2012 2 MIN READ

I am a big fan of new content related startup’s and especially one’s with plans for the long haul. Personally I know what it takes to achieve an income in this space from doing it the last 12 months, so I am excited to introduce to you the newest Business related news site on the ANZ scene.

SportBizInsider aims to be the leading, independent source for administrators, decision makers and stakeholders at all levels of the sport industry in Australia and New Zealand, by becoming the source of relevant news, analysis, opinion, features and insights on ‘The Business Side of Sport’.

SportBizInsider was founded by Nic Ferraro and Tony Harper and whilst the site has been live since March, is ready to announce its official launch after the introduction of a number of new features and contributors.

Managing Director Nic Ferraro said the Australian and New Zealand media market was short on sport business news and analysis. “The UK and US have a number of sources dedicated solely to sport business – CNBC, The New York Times, and Forbes magazine’s SportsMoney”

Mr. Ferraro adds “In arguably the toughest sporting landscape in the world we have no less than six major sporting codes competing for customers’ share of leisure time and wallet, across all major markets in a multi-billion dollar industry.

Sport has come a long way in the past decade. Where back-room staff and administrators were once recruited predominantly based on their sporting background, we are now seeing an era of true professionalism.

2012 will most likely see a second sporting code sign a billion dollar-plus television agreement in Australia. We are also seeing the expansion of sporting codes into new markets, the revamp of some sports to better resonate with their audience, and numerous challenges which will test the financial and social foundations of clubs and sporting bodies.”

SportBizInsider Editor Tony Harper adds “SportBizInsider aggregates the latest sport business headlines from Australia, New Zealand and around the world. Our aim is to build an interactive website to discuss daily industry news, to argue or agree with expert bloggers, and to share insight and opinion from industry insiders. You can also get involved on Facebook or Twitter”

In the short time that SportBizInsider has been live it has attracted exclusive contributions from the likes of former head of Corporate and Public Affairs with Football Federation Australia Bonita Mersiades, founding General Manager of MLS’s Chicago Fire Peter Wilt and former Olympian and now Director of Jump Media and Marketing David Culbert.

SportBizInsider has also run exclusive interviews with Spartan Sports CEO Kunal Sharma, Australian Cricketers Association CEO Paul Marsh, Cronulla Sharks Chairman Damian Irvine, Tribal Sports Management Director Lou Sticca and former NBL Hawks Captain and now State Community Advisor Mat Campbell.

As a result SportBizInsider has received exposure in ESPN Star, Wall Street Journal Asia, The Australian and The Sydney Morning Herald.

SportBizInsider is continuing its development, with a view to adding further features and contributors over coming months.
