Often when I interview entrepreneurs for the magazine, I usually ask a question. “Who inspires you as an entrepreneur?”
I usually get two answers, the first is Richard Branson, the second [especially if they are a tech entrepreneur] is Steve Jobs. The founder and CEO of Apple one of the worlds most iconic brands, sent shock waves through the media yesterday upon the announcement of his passing, with record breaking tweets of around 10,000 per second either spreading the news or expressing their sympathies.
Steve Jobs was one of the worlds great change makers, the vision he had as a CEO was unmatched in the tech sector, he set the trends and pushed other brands in his space to be more competitive than ever. It is without a doubt that if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be typing this blog post on my mac laptop, or looking at my iphone thinking jeez Mat, get to bed -you have to get up soon..
One of my favourite quotes of Jobs was “Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new” – He was a change agent of his time, and a figure that will be sorely missed by millions of fans worldwide. There will never be another Steve Jobs, but I look forward to the next global innovator that contributes in the same way Steve did to the next generation.
Rest in Peace. Steve Jobs [1955 – 2011]
