In a down market where Marketing and HR consultants are generally the first to be cut from budgets, Nina Dhupelia decided to take a risk and launch her own full service marketing consultancy.
After working for full service Marketing agencies in Brisbane Australia for nearly 10 years, it was time for a new challenge.
The challenge came in the shape of relocating to New York to undertake an Investor Relations role for a public Natural Resources company, dealing with all company stakeholders including shareholders, investment banks and the media.
After 9 months in New York, Nina relocated back to Brisbane and launched her own marketing consultancy in July 2011, called Evoke Communications.
“I had thought about going out on my own for the last few years as I was at a bit of a crossroads with my career, but I guess my time in New York really gave me the push that I needed to actually do it,” said Nina.
“It was a great experience living and working in New York. I was fortunate enough to work and live with my best childhood friend, which is an experience I will never forget.
“The people in New York are very inspirational.
“Everyone is there to work hard, follow their dreams and hopefully achieve what they set out to. I guess that’s the energy I caught wind of and brought back to Brisbane to launch Evoke Communications,” said Nina.
“Regardless of the market, there is always a need for the services that Evoke provides; in fact it creates many new opportunities. Companies still need to think strategically about their corporate profile, communications with stakeholders and business prospects. Ceasing these activities as soon as the market gets tough is a mistake that some make.
I refuse to look so pessimistically at the economy and just set out to focus on providing the best service I possibly can to my clients on a day-to-day basis,” said Nina.
