A Sydney trained Industrial Designer, Sortec Ly veered offtrack working in the advertising and design industry. It was the accumulation of 15 years of experience delivering good creative ideas to large blue chip companies that he decided to hang on to some of those ideas for himself, eventually drawing on them to startup Puggy in 2008.
Based in Sydney, preferring importance of humans over mass indifference, tired of more mass produced plastic he wanted to offer eco-minded alternative products that also encouraged creativity, like giant 3D canvases for people to get involved with.
In 2010 Puggy was voted the Best Kids Tents and Cubby Houses by Yahoo!7 Practical Parenting and Anthill Cool Company Award finalist for Innovation. Puggy is currently in the running for the prestigious Australian Business Award 2011 for Best Eco-friendly products, with the winner of this being announced in July.
Proudly Australian owned and designed, the trade marked Puggy® brand retails online has since picked up 25 retailers nationally, with interest from Singapore and New Zealand.
All Puggy products are 100% eco and people friendly made from recyclable paperboard, use minimal inks, zero adhesive and flatpacked. You could say, he turns a flat sheet of paperboard into clever creations with that hint of wow factor – the unique Puggy point of difference.
The new website www.puggy.com.au launched this year includes an online store, stockist information, testimonials and everything you need to know about Puggy and it’s clever creator.
Sortec’s “Puggy” vision means many more quirky clever innovations to come, of which will include paperboard home-wares and lighting – the possibilities are endless. He is seeking investors interested in helping to realise the vision.
