The Morrison Government has launched Coronavirus Australia, a new app for official COVID-19 information, as well as a Whatsapp feature, partnering with Facebook and Atlassian to produce it.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the launch of the app during a $1.1 billion commitment to additional telehealth, mental health, domestic violence and emergency relief services on Sunday, saying it was “very important for how we’re getting information to Australians”.

He thanked tech giants Atlassian and Facebook for helping develop the WhatsApp feature.

“You will get access to a new messaging service which enables us to talk to more and more Australians in terms of basic health advice, updates on the measures that are being put in place by state and federal governments, and that will assist you to get accurate and timely information,” Morrison said.

“I can also say that on the Apple app store, the coronavirus app, you can now download it. I did that this morning, and that is available and is doing the same thing – providing further information, more resources, a trusted place of advice and information.”
