Roll up, roll up!

Startup life is, to put it mildly, a rollercoaster – and some days it’s the whole carnival.

Coworking network TwoSpace will be celebrating the highs at Sydney’s Luna Park on August 29, running a pitching event – on the iconic Luna Park ferris wheel. TwoSpace will be putting startups into the ferris wheel with investors, giving them one spin to pitch their idea and help…get it off the ground.

Tashi Dorjee, cofounder and chief space officer at TwoSpace, said the idea behind the event goes back to what TwoSpace is all about.

“At TwoSpace we believe in connecting people, our spaces are a vehicle for human interaction. I thought, what better way to do that than by having some fun with some serious thrown in there!” he said.

“The ferris wheel idea was something I have been wanting to do for over a year, mix the startup vibe with the carnival like fun we grew up as kids. If you have to pitch or be pitched to why not do it in a ferris wheel? Elevators don’t have enough fresh air.”

There will also be a range of carnival-themed booths on the ground, including games, a pie eating contest, and a media pitching booth run by Startup Daily!

It’s all being made possible thanks to the support of a whole host of sponsors, including anchor partner MYOB.

MYOB’s Startups Community Manager, Kristen Holden said, “MYOB knows how hard it is for small businesses to get access to capital. We’re supporting this event to help highlight this in a fun and interactive way.

“Startups are the future of Australian business and the new knowledge economy. We love supporting events like this that help Australia’s next generation of business superstars.”

Also continuing its long-running support of TwoSpace is Sydney-founded brewery Young Henrys, which will be sponsoring drinks on the night.

Cofounder Oscar McMahon saying the brewery has long identified with the ethos of TwoSpace and what it is doing for up and coming entrepreneurs.

I feel really lucky to have been able to start a business that has gone really well, and when I think about the things you need in order to have a business go well, I feel you need to have determination, you have to have a good idea, and you have to have the energy to get through it, but you also need to have a supportive network around you,” he said.

“TwoSpace is trying to give people a network and inspiration to take their ideas and actually progress them; our support of them and this event is sort of paying it forward, because I feel that we’ve been afforded all of those luxuries through our network, so it’s time that we pay it back.”

You can run away and join the circus by grabbing one of two types of tickets available: you can nab a Carnival Pass to join us at Luna Park, or watch all the action from home with a Digital Pass.
