Social planning startup donates a dinner for every dinner planned

We’ve all done it. With the best intentions, you log onto whatever social media site all your friends use or start an email thread for a get together. You make your pitch, something a long the lines of “Hi guys, I was thinking we could all go out to eat this week. Any suggestions as to where? What time can everyone come?”

And then it starts. Everyone has conflicting schedules, or everyone agrees on a place but then you remember your two vegan friends will not be able to eat there, Susie will only go if Mark is free and Mark never checks his email.

You realise part of the way through that you forgot to add one of your friends to the list and you’ll be a total jerk if you don’t include them in the planning, and the whole mess begins all over again, and on, and on, and on.

Twenty-five year old Sydney born Whitney Komor has been there, done that, and was sick of it.

When yet another email thread between her group of friends got so long, and so complicated, the plans they were trying to make imploded in on themselves, Komor got creative and launched The Best Day, an online social planning tool that cuts through the fat of planning with a large group of people and gets to the meat of what needs to be done.

It even includes in site voting for things like time, and location. For a variety of different events, from nights on the town to weekend getaways.

However, Komor is not only creative, she is socially conscious. Seeing an opportunity to turn her business in a chance to give back to the community, she took it one step further.

Under the name ‘Dinner Giver’, The Best Day has pledged one dinner donation to the local charity OzHarvest for every dinner that is planned between friends on The Best Day, up to a lofty goal of 10,000 donations, meaning that all you have to do to help someone, is literally, invite your friends to dinner. Feeding yourselves, feeds someone else in need.

“We waste close to a staggering eight billion dollars worth of food each year in Australia,” says OzHarvest founder Ronni Kahn.

“We’re thrilled to partner with The Best Day to give people a fun, easy way to help us on our mission to reduce food waste and provide more meals to vulnerable Australians,”
