Today, we talk a little bit about Stealing or “copying” if you find the S word too strong. It is a serious problem in the Startup Scene at the moment and to be honest, it is a little bit scary, when I check out new businesses from Press Releases that have been sent across only to discover that everything about that person’s new business isn’t really that new at all. Re-Producing other peoples copy, images and general IP is slack, a lot of effort goes into those type of things. Plus it is stupid, because “copied” info does not show in search results the same way original stuff does.
Copying or Revamping Concepts is Ok – But don’t be lazy, if you are lazy about being original in your business – then you probably won’t attract any customers. Similar concepts exist everywhere, it’s healthy and competitive – but to stand out the IP needs to be unique, as that is what will set you a part from everyone else.
I get it – Copy is a bitch, sometimes when I am writing copy for our business I feel like face palming kittens because of the frustration getting the right message out to the audience that will yield me sales results causes. But unfortunately there are never any kittens around, so I just have to suck it up, focus, and do it – OR I get a second year journo student that’s at Uni to do it -no seriously, just tweet the university, they will retweet usually and you will get a decent response.
In other news – It’s the start of another financial year, and that means it’s time to get a head start on things and start making some SERIOUS Money – Who’s with me?
