If you are a startup obsessed twitter trawler like me, you would have noticed that over the weekend #swmelb was a bit of a trend amongst the tech and entrepreneurial crowd.
Held at new startup hub The York Butter Factory, Startup Weekend Melbourne was a weekend-long, hands-on experience where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs came to find out if their startup ideas were viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds.
Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees brought their best ideas and inspired others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focused on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.
The winner of the weekends Startup Weekend was Theme Pivot – a new application that takes your CSS from good enough to picture perfect. Basically in simple terms, you type in your website to their site and it comes up on the page, you then, click and comment on the types of changes that you would like to see take place on the website and then submit these and they are done for you, then you wait by your inbox for the changes to be emailed through to you.
