Shaking up Dining Experiences

Stalwarts on the Brisbane restaurant scene, be warned; there’s a new character in the midst that is set to shake up the idea of a dining experience. Poised on the culturally distinct Boundary Street strip in West End, Jam Jar offers a welcome refuge for those seeking a high-quality dining encounter with an edge.

Renowned for their former venture, the Jam Jar Café in Bowen Hills, mother and son duo Robyn and Jamie Simmonds have again joined forces to create a new destination for gastronomic enthusiasts and purveyors of culture.

Embracing the notion of ‘food, drink, think’, the pair have worked with Head Chef Steve Harry to design an eclectic menu infused with je ne sais quoi that boasts generous mains and enticing share plates made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

“It’s an open minded menu based on classic building blocks, but we’ve pushed the flavours in a different direction,” says Jamie. Highlights include Roasted Figs with Whipped Brie, Verjus Dressing and Basil Crisp, Savoury Feta Doughnuts and Sage-Infused Ballotine of Chicken with Caramelized Shallots and Truffled Mash.

In addition to the thought-provoking menu, Jam Jar offers a well-edited list of boutique beers, quirky varietal wines and signature cocktails. Jam Jar’s nonconventional dining courtyard, featuring booths made from reworked timber inspired by the beauty of traditional Queenslander homes, punctuates the unique appeal of the space.

Influenced by Brisbane’s creative subcultures, Jam Jar is adorned with an ever-evolving array of Stencil and Graff Art produced by local artists such as Miss Frankie Brown. Determined to tantalize the mind as well as the taste buds, Jam Jar will occasionally surprise and delight its patrons with impromptu theatre performances.

“Jam Jar offers a memorable experience that will alter the perceptions of how good food and good service is presented,” says Jamie.

Jam Jar is located at 138 Boundary Street, West End and is open from 5pm for dinner Monday to Tuesday, 11am – 11pm for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Friday and from 7am – 11pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner Saturday to Sunday.
